XRP ETFs Buck $1.2B Crypto Outflow With $11.3M Week
XRP spot ETFs were the only crypto-ETF category to take in money during the week of Oct 5-9, netting $11.3M even as Bitcoin, Ether and Solana funds bled. But nearly all of it came from a single issuer, and XRP's price still fell ~8%.
What happened: one green column in a red week
In the week of Oct 5-9, 2026, U.S. spot XRP ETFs were the only crypto-ETF category to attract net new money, pulling in about $11.3 million β roughly double the prior week's $4.74M β according to SoSoValue data relayed by KuCoin. Every other major category was in redemption.
The contrast was stark. Over the week's first four sessions, spot Bitcoin, Ether and Solana ETFs shed a combined ~$1.21 billion, per SoSoValue figures. Bitcoin funds carried the brunt: they lost about $678.9M across the full five-day week, with Oct 7 alone a $487.07M net outflow β BlackRock's IBIT leading that day's redemptions at roughly $208M β before a small +$21M bounce on Friday.
| Category (week of Oct 5-9) | Net flow |
|---|---|
| XRP spot ETFs | +$11.3M |
| Bitcoin spot ETFs | ~ β$678.9M |
| Ether spot ETFs | net outflow (9-day streak) |
| Solana spot ETFs | net outflow (streak snapped) |
Ether funds were mid-way through a multi-day outflow run and Solana had just snapped a 14-week inflow streak (see our Solana flow note). Against that backdrop, XRP's modest positive print stood out β it is now the third straight week XRP has bucked the broader tape, echoing the pattern we flagged in early September's lone-inflow analysis.
The catch: the inflow was almost entirely one fund
A headline category inflow can mask what is happening underneath, and XRP's did. The week's +$11.3M was not broad-based demand across the complex β it was concentrated in a single issuer.
- Bitwise XRP ETF: led with about +$10.55M for the week β nearly the entire category total β lifting its cumulative net inflow to roughly $688M.
- Franklin Templeton (XRPZ): added about +$4.1M, bringing lifetime inflows near $509M.
- Canary (XRPC): actually *bled* about β$3.34M on the week, trimming its cumulative total to ~$487M.
Three of the five sessions logged zero net flow for the category as a whole. Total net assets across U.S. spot XRP ETFs sit near $1.57 billion, about 1.8% of XRP's market cap, on cumulative net inflows of roughly $1.8B since launch.
When one fund supplies ~93% of a week's creations while another sees redemptions, the "category inflow" is really a story about distribution between products β not a uniform wave of new institutional demand.
What it means for investors
Two ETF-mechanics signals matter more than the raw $11.3M.
1. Flows and price diverged β again. XRP ETFs took in money while XRP itself fell about 8% on the week to roughly $1.40. Spot-ETF creations are driven by Authorized Participants delivering the underlying asset in exchange for new shares; net creations therefore reflect *primary-market* demand, not the *secondary-market* selling that sets price. A fund can print positive net flows on a down week when APs step in to meet share demand even as spot sellers dominate elsewhere. For anyone using flows as a leading indicator, the lesson is that small, concentrated creations are a weak signal β they tell you one issuer saw buyers, not that the asset found a bid. For the deeper mechanics, see our primer on NAV premium and discount.
2. Concentration is a liquidity risk at the pre-market open. With flows pooling into one fund and net assets still only ~$1.8% of XRP's cap, the XRP ETF complex remains thin relative to Bitcoin's. Thin primary-market activity tends to show up as wider pre-market bid-ask spreads and larger gaps between an ETF's indicative value and its first printed trade β exactly the dislocation Pre-Tick's estimation engine is built to flag before the bell. Traders sizing XRP-ETF positions off an overnight XRP move should treat the non-Bitwise products as the lower-liquidity leg, where slippage and premium/discount noise are highest at the open.
None of this is advice to buy or sell. The structural read is simply that a $11.3M "win" carried by a single issuer, against an 8% price drop and a $1.2B exodus elsewhere, is resilience worth noting β not a demand breakout. For the longer institutional thesis, our XRP ETF approval analysis lays out what sustained, broad-based flows would actually look like.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much did XRP ETFs take in during the week of Oct 5-9, 2026?
U.S. spot XRP ETFs netted about $11.3 million for the week β roughly double the prior week's $4.74M and the only positive crypto-ETF category, per SoSoValue data. Bitwise's XRP ETF supplied about $10.55M of that total, while Canary's XRPC saw a ~$3.34M net outflow.
Why did XRP ETFs see inflows while XRP's price fell?
ETF net flows measure primary-market creations and redemptions by Authorized Participants, not secondary-market price action. During the week XRP fell about 8% to roughly $1.40, yet one issuer still saw enough share demand to drive net creations. Positive flows on a down week reflect primary-market demand for a specific fund, not a price bottom.
How large are XRP ETFs compared to Bitcoin ETFs?
Total U.S. spot XRP ETF net assets are around $1.57 billion, about 1.8% of XRP's market cap, versus Bitcoin ETFs that measure in the hundreds of billions. That smaller, more concentrated base means wider spreads and more pre-market pricing noise, which Pre-Tick tracks on each ETF detail page.
